Changes to Animal Cruelty Investigations. Call 1-833-9-ANIMAL government hotline.

Posted: December 30, 2019

Changes to animal cruelty investigations come into play January 1, 2020, through the new Provincial Animal Welfare Act.

The Windsor Essex County Humane Society will no longer undertake investigations into animal cruelty through OSPCA officers. They will instead focus on sheltering homeless pets, providing care, veterinary treatment and behaviour rehabilitation. They will also continue to provide public education and the low- cost spay-neuter clinic.

Calls are to be placed to the government hotline.  Anyone wishing to report suspected animal neglect or abuse can call the government enforcement service at

1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625).

In urgent situations where an animal is being abused, calls will be dispatched to Windsor Police.
