Coronavirus Information for CHC Tenants

The health and well-being of our tenants and employees continue to be our priority.

  • CHC is increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in the high-traffic areas of our buildings. 
  • We have temporarily closed common areas to support social distancing, and are encouraging residents to follow health care recommendations to limit close contact with others.

We all have a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.


  • Practice social distancing by maintaining 2 metres (6 feet) of space between yourself and those around you. Limit the number of people you come into contact with.
  • The Ontario Government has limited crowds or gatherings to 5 people. (Essential businesses, families and child care facilities are exempt.)   
  • Wash your hands frequently.  Sneeze and cough into your arm or into a tissue, and dispose of the tissue immediately.
  • On March 25, 2020 the Minister Health announced that any person entering Canada by air, sea or land must self-isolate for 14 days whether or not they have symptoms of COVID-19. The Government of Canada will use its authority under the Quarantine Act to ensure compliance with the order.


  • Avoid crowded elevators when possible, wait for an empty one if you can. Wash your hands after using the elevator.


  • Resident are encouraged to limit the number of guests at this time to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the building.
  • Do not invite guests to the building who are recently returning to Canada from a foreign country, remind them they are to self-isolate for 14 days
  • All residents need to support the social distancing recommendations from our healthcare leaders, including limiting social gatherings in the common areas of the buildings.


  • Limit your use of shared laundry facilities and try to use them at off-peak times. CHC will endeavor to conduct more frequent cleaning with disinfecting products.
  • CHC has temporarily closed all shared amenities in your buildings like common rooms, party rooms, craft rooms and the library, to be re-opened as soon as deemed safe.
  • Avoid using the mailroom at the same time as other residents

Starting Monday, March 23, 2020, our office locations will be CLOSED to walk-in traffic.

This includes:

  • all CHC office locations, including CHC Main Office (945 McDougall),
  • all CHC District Office locations and the Central Housing Registry – Windsor Essex County (CHR).

 The health and well-being of our tenants and employees continue to be our priority.  CHC is changing our service level to help mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19 within our community. These changes will impact our response, and wait times may be longer than usual.  Public health officials, including Windsor Essex County Health Unit (WECHU), continue to urge social distancing to slow the spread of this pandemic.  We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience at this time.


Starting Monday March 23, 2020, our office locations will have limited hours as follows:

CHC Main Office – 954 McDougall – open from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM


CHC District Office locations and the Central Housing Registry – Windsor Essex County (CHR)

– open from 9:30 AM  – 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM; offices will be closed from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM for lunch.


To promote social distancing, we are encouraging residents not to visit CHC office locations, including the CHR, unless absolutely necessary.  Please see below for alternate service options:

  • Telephone banking
  • Use the ATM

For any of these options, you will have to add CHC as a payee – our payee name is “Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation (CHC)”.

You will also need your tenant number.  If you do not know your tenant number, please call 519-254-1681 and follow the prompts to contact your District Office Staff.

Dear Residents,

We know that COVID-19 is top of mind for Canadians across the country. The health and wellbeing of our employees, our residents and everyone in Windsor and Essex County is a top priority for my team and me.

I want to thank everyone, especially our local front-line healthcare workers, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) and the City of Windsor’s Community Control group which is monitoring the situation locally and globally.

These are uncertain times, and CHC is continuing to monitor this extraordinary situation closely and is following the latest guidance from local, provincial and federal health authorities, including the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the City of Windsor to ensure that our practices align with the latest recommendations.

We are taking steps to help keep you protected:

  • Enhanced cleaning procedures in our apartment building entrances and elevators, and at all CHC locations, including our Main Office, all District Office locations and the Central Housing Registry- Windsor Essex County
  • Redeployment of staff to support the response to COVID-19
  • Proactive identification of safety procedures and protocols to guide staff and contractors
  • Suspended community events to support social distancing
  • Increased resident communication as the pandemic response evolves
  • Regular and updated communication through our website and notices posted in buildings.

Please be aware that you may experience slower than usual response times due to a higher volume of calls. Rest assured that we are committed to providing you with the best service we can as we help all our residents navigate this unusual time.
