IF SOMEONE SHOWS UP AT YOUR DOOR - ASK FOR ID!

Posted: September 18, 2017

CHC has been notified by concerned residents of an issue involving individuals falsely representing themselves as water filtration and water tank repair contractors attempting to gain access into homes by claiming that they are authorized by CHC.

Some of these individuals make false or misleading statements about water quality and/or the mandatory replacement of water tanks. They may imply that they are working for the The Windsor Essex County Health Unit or CHC.  They ask to conduct an in-house meter reading or to  examine your tank, sometimes they will ask to see your hydro bills. If someone shows up at your door, remember the following to protect yourself from scams:

  • Ask for ID! (CHC employees or contractors carry photo ID)
  • Did you request this house call? (CHC staff or contractors  will not visit without a prior appointment when replacing or upgrading equipment.)
  • Did CHC provide you with 24 hours of notice to enter your unit?  ( CHC can only legally enter your unit without 24 hour notice, in the event of emergency)
  • Call your district office or after hours to confirm that the visit is legitimate.
  • Don’t feel pressured to sign contracts or papers on the spot.
  • Never give out your personal information.

Call Windsor Police non emergency to report the incident.
