WINDSOR-ESSEX SENIORS CALL ASSURANCE PROGRAM

If the effects of COVID-19 and increased isolation measures have left you or someone you know feeling isolated and disconnected from the people and services you rely on for support, you do not have to face these feelings alone.

The Windsor-Essex Seniors Call Assurance Program provides free regular telephone check-ins, and referrals to other supports, if necessary. This confidential support line is available to seniors in the Windsor-Essex community for people who are 55 or older.

The Federal Government Announced today

SUPPORT FOR SENIORS( $2.5Billion)

 An automatic payment for people ( seniors) who qualify for GIS/OAS. Seniors who qualify for Old Age Security (OAS) will be eligible for a one-time, tax-free payment of $300, and those eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will get an extra $200.

  • Those eligible for both will receive $500.
  • The direct supports will be worth $2.5 billion and are expected to help 6.7 million older Canadians.
  • GIS repayment date pushed back until October.
  • Additional $20M for New Horizons for Seniors to help with the impacts of isolation. This benefit is in addition to previously released Senior Focused Community Program.
