Beat the Heat: Sandpoint Beach Opens and More!

June 14, 2022

The City of Windsor is pleased to announce that Sandpoint Beach, located at 10300 Riverside Drive East, is open for the season.

Thanks to the hard work of teams from Recreation and Culture along with Parks and Facilities, Sandpoint Beach is open with lifeguards on duty from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily, weather and water quality permitting, until Labour Day weekend.

Participants are encouraged to inquire at the main Lifeguard Office about our lifejacket-lending program and are reminded that an accessible portable washroom, beach matting and floating beach wheelchairs are available on site.

For information on beach water quality results, please visit the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s water quality page.

Splash Pads Open, Pools Coming Soon

If you’re not a swimmer, don’t forget City splash pads are also open for the season from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily, weather permitting. Programming at the outdoor pools will begin in early July.

Indoor Cooling Options

The City offers a number of options to keep cool indoors too:

  • Community centres across the city are open for the summer.
  • Our award-winning Windsor Public Library has something for everyone: read, learn and discover at a library branch in your neighbourhood. And yes, you’re welcome to come in and cool off from the summer heat. Check out your nearest library branch.
  • The Homelessness & Housing Help Hub (H4) day program at 400 Wyandotte Street East (Windsor Water World) is open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week to offer services for people experiencing homelessness. Call (519) 253-3806 for more information on H4.
